How to Fix Hair Colour Gone Wrong
If your home-hair kit has had disastrous consequences or a hairdresser has left you with less than perfect locks, don’t panic. At Joanne’s, our team of expert stylists utilise their years of experience and industry-leading training to correct any hair colour mistakes.
There are many reasons why hair colouring goes wrong, from spreading the dye through your hair unevenly, your hair not taking to the chemicals used or even a stylist making a mistake with mixing the dye. No matter the cause of why you’re not happy with your hair colour, there is a way to fix it and give you back the hair you were dreaming of.
The treatment you’ll need to correct the colour will vary from person to person and so you’ll need to pop in for a colour consultation before we begin. This is to ensure we understand exactly what it is you want from your colour correction so we can apply the right tones to your hair. If you have a photo of the colour you’d like, make sure you bring it along to your appointment.
Common problems with hair colour
At Joanne’s, we have helped restore the hair colour of many clients who have come to us after a dye mistake. The most common fixes include;
Hair is too yellow – if your hair is too yellow, we’ll need to cover the colour with cooler tones, avoiding honeys and caramels. For a quick fix, try using a lightweight purple-toning shampoo and conditioner.
Hair has turned orange – to correct the orange tones in their hair, we may need to lighten your locks to lift out the brassy tones before applying more ashier colours to get to the correct shade. Again, you can use purple toning shampoos and conditioners to try easing the orange colours.
The blond is ashy – if your hair has gone greyer than you’d like, we’ll add golds, coppers and peaches to your hair to revive the warmer tones. If you don’t want to wait for your appointment, wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo like Head & Shoulders as it will help strip out the colour.
Stripy highlights – if your highlights are more tiger than subtle tone changes, we’ll need to cover your whole hair with the same colour and then re-highlight it. Balayage is a great alternative to traditional highlights. Try spraying a little dry shampoo over your hair to help blend the stripes in the meantime.
