Give Your Friends Serious Hair Envy with Our Top Hair Care Tips

Thinking of changing up your hair care routine as one of your New Year’s resolutions? Then look no further for some pro tips from our expert stylists about how to mix up your hair care and get professional results!

1) Stop washing your hair

Ok, we don’t mean stop washing it completely but rather cut down on the number of times you shampoo. When you wash your hair, you’re effectively stripping it of the natural oils and proteins that help keep your locks luscious and scalp healthy, so we recommend limiting hair washes to 3 times a week (though this can depend on hair type).

2) Use protection

While we all love our trusty styling tools, such as tongs, straighteners and hairdryers, they produce extreme heat which certainly won’t help keep your hair healthy. So, when drying or styling, always use a heat protector on your locks to help stop damage.

3) Invest in your locks

Like with most things in life, when it comes to hair care you tend to get what you pay for. This means that when you’re choosing your next shampoo, styler or even hairbrush, it’ll be worth investing a little more to get a quality product. This is especially true of your hairbrush. A good quality brush may set you back a few more pounds initially but take good care of it and it’ll last forever!

4) How do you brush?

While dragging your brush through your hair from the roots down may save time, it will only damage your hair in the long run. Always start brushing your hair from the lengths and work your way up, especially if your hair is long. It’s also worth using a wide-tooth comb when your hair is wet to help stop breakage.

5) Change up how you condition

Did you know the excess water left on your hair after shampooing can stop your conditioner penetrating the hair shaft and delivering the moisture that will help keep your hair healthy? To make sure your hair is getting the most of your lovely conditioner, gently remove excess water from your hair with a towel after rinsing off your shampoo to remove those pesky extra water droplets.
